Forthcoming Meetings
Mar 13 `Searching for Ancestors Records in Westminster Archives' by Janice West. The talk is
entitled `Everyone has ancestors' and will discuss developing family histories using a range of
research tools. It will be illustrated and will touch on some pitfalls of searching for family records
and provide some hints on getting the best from resources available.
Apr 10 `Surname Resources on the Internet' by Peter Christian.
May 8 `Tithe Maps and Apportionments' by Paul Blake - This talk will look at the history of
the tithe, from very early time, through to the Tithe Commutation Act (6&7 Will IV,
C.71), which received Royal Ascent in August 1836, and its consequences including the
creation of the Tithe Maps and Apportionments and other less known records.
Jun 12 We will not be having the informal meeting previously arranged for May. I have been able to get Steve Jordan, highly recommended by Ann Sargeant to come along for the last meeting of this session. It will be a ‘light’ evening, as enjoyed by your ancestors and suitable for the summer season. We will be learning more about an aspect of life from the mid-19th. to early 20th. centuries and enjoying ourselves as well. Even come in appropriate costume if you like! Do come and enjoy a different kind of evening and even bring your friends.
